Advancing the use of life cycle approaches by building decision makers
A meeting hosted by the UNEP/SETAC Life Cycle Initiative
November 13, 2004 -- 8AM to 4PM
Purpose
- Provide a forum for exchange of information on current LCA programs related to green buildings:
a. Provide the North American Green Building community (USGBC, manufactures, architects, city/state/federal government, consultants, NGOs, academics) with a chance to come up to speed on the state of the art on LCA applied to construction in Europe, Australia, Latin America and Asia Pacific.
b. Provide members of the life cycle community from Australia, Europe and other regions with an understanding of current events and trends in application and policies related to LC approaches to green construction in North America.
- Provide a description of other international programs and forums, including the UNEP/SETAC Life Cycle Initiative, the ISO process on updating LCA standards, and the ISO process to develop a framework for assessment of environmental performance of buildings, all of which are shaping LCA and its application to buildings.
Intended Outcomes
Conclusions about next steps for international collaboration to promote LCA applications among building decision makers.
